River Stage Now

About

River Stage Now shows the latest USGS river flow for thousands of stream gauges next to what is typical for the month, for anglers, paddlers and people who live near a river.

What you can do here

Open a gauge page to see the latest flow, the gage height where the gauge reports it, and how today's flow compares with the median for this month at that gauge. Each page also lists the typical flow for every month and the highest annual peak on record.

The gauges-near-me tool finds the closest gauges to you and loads their latest readings.

Where the figures come from

All figures come from the U.S. Geological Survey Water Data APIs, which publish U.S. federal data in the public domain. Monthly figures come from the USGS statistics service; live readings are loaded in your browser straight from the USGS when you open a page.

Live readings are provisional and can be revised after USGS review. Gauges are included when they reported streamflow in the two weeks before the site data was last refreshed.

Measurements, not advice

This site reports measurements only. It does not say whether a river is safe to wade, paddle or cross. For flood watches and warnings, check the National Weather Service at water.noaa.gov.

Page text is generated by code from those figures, without AI writing. An automated check compares every number in the text with the data before a page is published.

Independence and corrections

River Stage Now is an independent site and is not affiliated with the USGS or any government agency.
